Kimberly Guilfoyle described her background as a first-generation American with her parents being special education teacher Mercedes Marie Gerena from Puerto Rico and immigrant Anthony "Tony" Guilfoyle from Ireland. However, she faced criticism for referring to her Puerto Rican mother as an immigrant since Puerto Ricans are born U.S. Citizens due to the territory's status within the U.S. She is of mixed heritage.

Her Father was in the US Army

Her father, Anthony Guilfoyle, emigrated from Ireland to the US in his twenties and served in the army before becoming a successful real estate investor. He passed away in 2008. Her parents worked tirelessly to provide for their family and encourage Kimberly and her siblings to pursue their goals. Her mother died of leukemia when she was eleven years old.

Guilfoyle spent her summers working in her family's local store in Ennis, Ireland, where they sold china and Waterford Crystal. This experience allowed her to connect with her Irish roots and gain valuable work experience.
