Urmila Sial Kapoor is the daughter of Prithviraj Kapoor and the only sister of the three brothers, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. Her brothers, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, and Shashi Kapoor, would often make fun of her dark complexion and tease her by claiming she was adopted and not their real sister.

She was born in 1935 in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India. Her mother's name is Ramsarni Mehra Kapoor. She attended a local private school in Calcutta for her primary education. Urmila Sial Kapoor joined Lady Irwin College, Delhi for higher education. She gained experience as an assistant director working with her father for a few years.

Urmila was married early and it was through the help of Raj Kapoor's wife that she met Charanjit Sial, who owned a coal mine. They had a happy married life and were blessed with a son named Jatin Sial and later three daughters - Anuradha Sial, Priti Sial, and Namita Sial. Unfortunately, in 1993, her husband passed away suddenly from a cardiac arrest. Urmila chose not to remarry after his death. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall.

She relocated to Nagpur with her husband after getting married. Her son Jatin Sial has made appearances in various well-known Hindi television shows and movies like Kasam Se, Aa Ab Laut Chalein, and Vivah. Urmila prefers to stay away from social media and does not have any personal accounts on any platform.
