Usha Vance's parents, Krish and Lakshmi Chilukuri are both academics who were born in Andhra Pradesh, India. They made the decision to immigrate to the United States after marriage in the 1980s due to the limited opportunities available in India at that time. Their goal was to create a better life for themselves and their families by seeking out new possibilities in America.

Her mother is a professor and father is an engineer


Her mother being a biologist and her father an aerospace engineer, both had successful careers in academia and industry. Her mother excelled as a professor at the University of San Diego while her father began as an aerodynamics specialist and worked his way up to manager at his company. Though Krish has since retired, he was also an associate director at Collins Aerospace. Usha had two siblings: a sister named Shreya and a brother.

JD and Usha Vance first crossed paths at Yale University, where Usha earned both her undergraduate and law degrees. After completing her studies, she gained valuable experience clerking for future Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and Chief Justice John Roberts. For the past few years, she has been practicing as a trial lawyer at the prestigious Munger, Tolles & Olson law firm. However, it was recently announced that she has decided to leave the firm. They got married in 2014 and have three children named Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.

Usha, who practices Hinduism, and JD Vance, a Christian, have found common ground in merging their faiths under one roof. They believe in similar values when it comes to family life and raising children.
